Compatibility Question: Ssd Form Factor

I want to buy a Team Group CX2 2.5" 2TB SATA III 3D TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) T253X6002T0C101 - Because it's cheap. And I am broke. But the model it's replacing is a 3.5" 512GB SSD. Is the 2.5" compatible?

It is totally compatible in terms of electrical (data and power) cables. It is also compatible in terms of the interface protocols (the computer will be able to use it just fine).

Your only potential problem will be physically "mounting" the 2.5" drive in place of the 3.5" drive.

Inspect the current mounting bay/bracket. It may already have the necessary mounting holes for the smaller drive, or your case may already support the smaller drive in a different mounting location. If not, you will need an adapter bracket.

Yeah, according to Just Playin's screen shot, your current SSD is a M.2 PCIe SSD. If you are looking to physically remove that SSD and replace it with a similar SSD, you will need one similar to the one he suggested.

HOWEVER, if you are looking to just "add" an additional SSD for more storage space, and if your current case does not support 2.5" SATA drives directly, you will need one of those adapters. You then will also need a SATA data cable from the drive to the motherboard, and a SATA power connection to the power supply. The power supply should (hopefully) have the necessary spare connection. SATA data cables are cheap and readily available. If you have a friend who tinkers around with computers, he/she probably has a few spare SATA data cables laying around.

Currently the plan is to add the newbie for more space, and make it the C:// Drive, which seems like it has the slottery (that's my new word) for it, but if it gets here, and I'm completely wrong (this happens often) thanks to Just Playing, I know which one to get.
