Compatibility

Help! Have an old single core system that will like to update. System was built with a mid size case and ATX form factor mobo, so I will like to stay with ATX form factor. I bought AMD Athlon X2 5000+, socket AM2+ processor. System will be used for normal computer work and simple games. No major numbers crunching or complicated graphics. Want to keep cost down. Can anyone knows or suggest a reasonable price mobo for this cpu.

 

So, you mean a mobo with on board graphics then? Do you already have a graphics card ready to transplant? If so, then give us a model#. I personally detest onboard graphics but let us know what you have so we can pick the proper mobo.

 

Well the problem is you may have jumped the gun. In your single core system you are probably using DDR1 ram and due to it's age some stuff may not be comparable.

AMD Dual cores need DDR2 ram (Correct me if I'm wrong) So you may need to buy new ram.

I agree with augie that onboard video is horrid.

Could you post full specs of that system you have now.

 

My old system is about 8 years old-Abit NF7 mobo, single core cpu, old 330w psu and memory. I want to update to new system, actually built new system only using old drives and hard disk with microsoft XP. To that end I saw a good price on the AMD Athlon X2 5000+ and bought it. So I'm trying to find a good inexpensive mobo compatible with this cpu. I've been reading some reviews and it seems there are some good and some bad ones. I'm asking the collective experience on this forum for a decent recommendation.
