Compatible Key Logging Software

I am running AVAST on all my systems. I need to know if there is a keylogging program out there that will not be identified as a virus when I load it. We need to monitor what our daughter is accessing on the internet (what I have found so far is pretty scary). I have heard of programs that will let me monitor her computer from "our" computer, but I can't seem to find a product name. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I appreciate the list, but not the preaching! Are you a parent? Have you walked in my shoes, dealing with trying to protect your daughter? Please don't presume to lecture me on a situation you have no clue about. We have talked to her, removed her computer from the room, put parental controls on the one she has access to and a number of other remedies. One of her friends gave her a laptop that I found in her room. Its password protected. I have had access to it only on two occasions. The therapist says that we need to confront her with proof of where she has been. So thats where I am going.

 

There are messenger logfiles stored in the program files dir on the PC from where she goes online from that moment, but unfortunately, she probably knows how to deactivate them.
You could also try UltraVNC. It's a tool that let's you monitor other peoples' activities on a network. But you'll have to explore and educate yourself with it cause it's pretty advanced software

No offense in any way but who gave your daughter a laptop and why do you let her acces it without you having a password?

 

If you purely want to find out what sites are being accessed, you can do this using a tool like WhatIsTransferring. Which used to be on MG but for some reason I can't find it now... http://www.wfshome.com/wit.htm

You can also use ARP Poisoning and packet logging to do the same thing manually - which lets you pick up all sorts of traffic including IM traffic. It's a lot more work though.

This isn't the place to be preaching, so I'll try not to. I think a network monitor would be more appropriate than a keylogger - not least because it's easier for you to run, but also because it's not quite as intrusive as having every keystroke recorded. If I was presented with a log of every single thing I typed in the last month I would be scared to say the least.

In this case the user is asking about software to monitor her daughters activity. It is not your place to judge, ask why or what the parent has or has not done or suggest what they should do. Bazza, this is a point I was trying to make. It is not our purpose to ask questions as to why or suggest they talk to their child but to answer the question at hand if possible.

We cannot possibly know what situation they are dealing with, how sensitive it may or may not be and what steps brought them to this point...it is none of our business.
