Compatible? you tell me...

So i have finaly excepted the fact that my computer is way out of date and is in need of a serious speed boost. right know i have an AMD athlon XP 1800+
The chipset on my mobo is a VIA VT266A AGPset its a socket A. And i have 512MB DDR-SDRAM PC-2100. What im looking at getting is an AMD Athlon XP 2700+ Or maybe a 2800+. And for some more memory, pqi POWER Series 184-Pin 512MB DDR PC-2100. I looked all over the internet trying to find out if this stuff would work for my mobo but couldent find an anwser, so i thought i would leave it in the hands of some more computer savvy people.

 

The RAM should be compatible as it is still PC2100. The processor is limited to what your mobo can handle. Check the manufacturers website to see, likely it is just a BIOS update that will enable you to use faster procesors.

 

All it said was that it supports "Future AMD processors". not much help is it.

 

What FSB does it support?

 

from the manual... "200/266MHz FSB and DDR bus speeds (PCI 33MHx)"

 

I see your point so i may have to go with a AMD Mobile Athlon XP 2600+, 266 MHz FSB, 512K L2 Cache Processor? would that be comparible to the 2700+?

 

okay, i think i have it figured out. but i have one more question. would this work? AMD Mobile Althlon XP-M 3000+ 2.2GHz, 266MHz FSB, 512K L2 Cache Processor for DTR - OEM
i have no clue on this stuff and some more help would be great, and does the mobil mean its only for laptops?
