compiz problems

When I go to run comiz from the terminal I get this error message.

Checking for Xgl: not present.

Anyone know how to fix this... I'm using ubuntu with the xfce desktop.

 

What video card? Are you using free or nonfree drivers?

There's my video card, I don't know which drivers its using, I'm using ubuntu linux with the xfce desktop enviroment. Also, I'm relatively new to linux.

 

Dreamer, which version of Linux are you trying to solve for XFCE?

Also, I am using and ubuntu installation (gusty gibbon) and installed the xfce window manager and desktop enviroment and currently use that since I do not like gnome.

 

xfce is designed for lower end machines and so has fewer of the bells and whistles.

If you can run it, here is yet another alternative. Compiz will be different on KDE than on Gnome slightly.

sudo apt-get kde-core

or

sudo apt-get kubuntu-desktop

That is nice, but I would like to run compiz from xfce, I know people have done it.
