Initially could not open IE, or access Spybot etc. Now ok, but takes 6 minutes from turn-on, till accessing the internet is possible.
Hope I've properly attached the necessary information.
    Thanks, for your help.

Why am I not seeing any AV program installed on this system?

    You need to uninstall:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

    Reboot and download and install:
    Java Runtime 6

I am not seeing any malware on your system. I suggest that you post in the software forum for further assistance with your slow issues. You may wish to use:

    Startup_CPL

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Thank you Tim,
I cannot remove Java, says I do not have access. I was able to remove Malware Malbytes!
I will reinstall AV, and follow your other instructions.
Thanks so much, for taking the time.

Thanks again for the much needed help. It appears something else is seriously wrong. I continue to take 6-7 minutes from turn-on to accessing yahoo on the internet. If there are no other options I'll assume a clean install is necessary.
Your effort and time is appreciated!!
Sure hope I'm using this site properly.

What about safe mode? Does it also take that long to boot to the desktop in that mode? And you are most welcome.

Another thing to try is to go to start / run and type:
sfc /scannow and have your windows disc handy.

Did you install an AV program and did it find anything?

I've tested startup in Safe Mode. Took 3 minutes from turn-on till Yahoo came up in IE. Includes the F8 procedure and logging in.

I have turned on Teatime in Spybot, no other AV till I get this fixed.
I only use this laptop for your repair help, otherwise it is offline.

Regarding Spybot scan, it found 6 items if I remember correctly. None of which I hadn't seen before. Fixed all of them. I've attached a report I just received from Spybot, if you have time.

I don't have a Windows disk from this Laptop, I do have a XP Pro disk, not sure if i can use it!?

    Thanks again.

Go ahead and get online and install an AV program. You can choose one from here:

I have just started sfc /scannow, after a little research, I'll post the results. My scan is about 1/3, after approximately 10 minutes.

Thanks for your help TimW, greatly appreciated.
Sorry I can't sit down and stay steady with this project!

Scannow ran without a hitch, although it took an hour. Closed itself and never gave any other indications. Windows would not close/restart, so after 20 minutes I forced it closed and started it again. Seems about as slow as previous.

Installed an AV from your list, COMODO. But as with Java, I get error 1601 "WIS could not be accessed to install COMODO LivePCSupport". Same error when the AV tried to install itself. I retried twice, and quit.

Could windows installation service slow this machine down?

It's possible. No matter, you need to post in the software forum to try to get this figured out. :(
