i have looked on here and other sites- and no matter what i do after i uninstall and then reinstall outlook all my old data is still there..

That's because Outlook stores all your data - emails, calendars, address books - in a separate file that can be located anywhere on your computer. Uninstalling has no effect at all on this file.

If you want to create an entirely new data file that is simple, and many web pages describe how to do it. Here is just one -

i know that.. i deleted ALL the pst files and still my old data comes up.. i also looked at that site before you sent..

If you already knew that then why are you wasting your time uninstalling? You may think you have removed all pst files but if your data is still there then clearly you have not. Outlook will tell you which data file it is using, I suggest you go look for it.

    it says outlook.pst is missing

There is a tool many of us on here use for finding files, and it will find your 'missing' pst file. It's only a small app but with big heart - http://www.voidtools.com/

Just entering .pst in the search field will find it.

    Hi

    What Windows version?

If you dont want any of the data from the old PST then if you have left Outlook to install the PST in its default location then navigate to here C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook and delete all the PSTs including the archive, if you wish to keep the old PST then copy and paste it somewhere else on your PC, as can always install it back as an archive. (note you need to change the path slightly and enter in yourusername you logon name)

Do have Outlook closed while doing this, then when deleted Outlook will create a new PST

Now you have definitely got rid of that data file this would be a great time to reinstall Outlook. It will create a new, clean data file for you. Just in case there is stuff in the old data file that you might want I suggest you restore it from the bin to a spare location, as it can subsequently be mounted in Outlook and stuff recovered from it.

I'm a bit stumped. I've never tried to uninstall Outlook, don't even like/use it in fact, but it seems 'uninstalling' leaves a lot of settings behind which get picked up on a reinstall.

Let's hope someone can help with this.

So your back to fairly normal personal folders now, with no extras?

Just do a quick look in Account Settings and the Email tab and the Data Files tab that all that is list is what you want/need.

Few programs are unique these days. What is it about Outlook that means you must use it?

If your mail server is an Exchange Server, then I think only Outlook can use its functionality.

If your mail server is a normal SMTP/POP/IMAP server, then you can use almost any email client available.

Greeting from a new forum member, but longtime MajorGeek user. I can't find where in this thread (or elsewhere) it explains HOW to completely remove Outlook, which I want to do. I had it disabled somehow, but a microsoft update seems to have removed the stake I though I had put through its evil heart. Now it constantly want to update something via wireless and complains I don't have the wireless turned on. I want no part of outlook, but it's not in "remove programs" and I don't see it in "startup" either. Outlook 2003, outlook spam filter updated yesterday (I didn't notice it to delete it) win XP. Any pointers appreciated.

did u try something like CCleaner

Thanks for responding. In CCleaner, as in control panel, outlook does not show up in the list as a program to be removed. I could remove all of office 2003, but I need excel and word. I have never used outlook, so I don't know if it can be configured to stay out of my face, but my preference would be to remove it. I thought I once saw a freeware app to get rid of it, but at the time I didn't care, and I couldn't find it today on Major Geeks. Suggestions welcome.
