Compression of HD, any better on xp?

i have a few 512mb usb 2.0 lexar jump drives (anyone intrested its the one with a steal case)

anyways i remember all the problems reported back on win 95/98 saying things like "Compatibility and Reliability Issues in Volume Compression".. with the NTFS format has the compatibility and reliability improved?

its not a big deal as its not going to save me 50% of the drive, but would let me have more geeky software per drive.

 

Its generally a bad idea to convert a thumb drive to NTFS, for compatibility reasons. Linux, Unix, and OS X have limtied abilities with it, although support is getting better over time.

 

very true, anyone i know with linux never has problems *including myself*
apple pretty much all i know about it is to turn off extentions, then enable them one by one to see where the problem comes from.
windows.. i dont care much to work on older systems.. always try to get people up to xp then just turn off the fisher price look to make it run faster

 

Then the compatbility isn't an issue if its XP to XP.

Macs don't use extensions like you mentioned, anymore. Its a Unix OS at core.

what abotu the compression? has that been resolved to not have the old school issues of being all buggy?

 

NTFS compression isn't buggy, but also isn't the same as using a compression utility. Its built into the filesystem.
