Good evening all you brilliant minds out there (and the mediocre ones too)

I am taking my network + test the day after tomorrow. I have taken the sample quiz on comptia.org and I got all of the questions right the first time except for one. This is driving me insane. Here is the question:

You need to determine if your network's Domain Name System (DNS) servers are properly supporting reverse lookup. What should you do?
    (choose two)
    The answers I gave were

    Use nslookup
    Use arp

    Other choices were
    Use ping
    Use ntbstat
    Use dig
    Use rarp
and one other that I can remember but I know it was not right.

I know arp is definitely one of the two but I can not for the life of me figure out which other is correct. ping is the only other one that seems possible but I don't think that is right either. Any of you astute people care to lend a opinion?

    Thanks in advance

i would suggest that you would just use NSLOOKUP to look up a host and get a response and then lookup the IP and you should get the same response.

    C:\Users\Clarkie>nslookup
    Default Server: my.router
    Address: 172.16.2.1

    > bbc.co.uk
    Server: my.router
    Address: 172.16.2.1

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: bbc.co.uk
    Address: 212.58.241.131

    > 212.58.241.131
    Server: my.router
    Address: 172.16.2.1

    Name: bbc.co.uk
    Address: 212.58.241.131

The other option would be a dig
    dig -x IP (212.58.241.131)

    hope that helps

Now you would think that Arp and Nslookup would be the answers. But they are not so one of them is definitely one of the right answers. But it is irrelevant now that I have passed the test and it was brutal. 100 questions, 2 hour time limit and I missed 18 questions. I took the Network + course online through CompTIA and I used this web site to cram for the test: http://www.networkdriven.com/ it was $20 bucks well spent. They have 10 40 questions quizzes. 2 60 question evaluation exams and a 100 question practice test. Now we are off to begin the Security + course. :)

    So NSLOOKUP and DIG

    Good luck with the Security+

perhaps if you were working on a unix or linux based system, dig would be one of the correct answers. I nslookup a command line utility that is also used in unix or linux?
