Every now and then when I go to turn on the computer it starts to boot (hardrive and cdrom lights start up then everything stops and I hear a low beeping siren like sound within the computer. FIC AU11 motherboard, Athlon 2 gig processor, 1000 gig memory, ATI Radeon 7000 AGP 64 MG vid card, soundblaster16 PCI sound card, dual boot system 98 SE and XP. Norton Anti-virus and Goback activated (unfortunately I can't get to the Goback boot screen to let it do it's reset thing). If I continually hit the reset button or continuous on/off it boots up eventually. Any ideas as to what this could be? Thanks in advance.

Have you checked to make sure that all cables are connected securly and that all hardware is seated properly??

One little thing that is the least little iota loose...can give you all kinds of nightmares!!!!

I checked all that the first time it happened about a week and 1/2 ago. My wife went on this afternoon and told me it happened again (about 4 x so far),

if the pc is beepoing then someting is wrong with the hardware. what you have to do is find the error codes for you mobo.
    example
on my pc 3 beeps and a pause then 3 beeps means somthing is wrong with the memory
continous beeps means some cables are not connected to the board properly etc......

    Hi all,
Thanks for your replies. Unfortuntely it isn't beeping anymore. Just starts to boot up (Harddrive and cdrom lights, fans running) then stops dead. My son in law, who builds and repairs computers, will be giving it a total look (already attempted putting in another video card which didn't work). He said he'll take out my memory and CPU to see if they work on another computer he's working on. Hopefully it's the memory (cheapest fix) and not the motherboard or CPU (definitely hope it's not that!!). Thanks again.
