Computer boots sometimes

Ever since I have had my computer it seems to only boot about 1/5 of the times that I press the power button. I replaced the power supply and video card and it did not help.


Asus A8v Deluxe Motherboad
x800 videocard
Ulra 500 watt PSU
2 GB xms ram
AMD FX55

 

Are you sure you've connected the power connectors from the case the the Mobo correctly?

 

Wouldnt that just cause the computer to never turn on?

 

Well I'd like to say yes, but then we'd be asuming that isn't the problem. Asuming is a bad idea, computers and hardware don't always do you they are supposed to do, hence the fact you are at the Major geeks forum seeking help. Is best to start with the basics, I've seen posts were people are having display problems cause they never connected the monitor to the VGA card.

 

And yes, I can't type for crap.

 

Are you saying that when you press the power button on the case, 4 out of 5 times the system won't turn on at all? If that is indeed the case, my first guess would be the power switch itself is bad or has bad connection because of damaged/cramped cables somewhere between the mobo and the power button...that would be the simplest and least costly thing to check for as well.

 

No 4/5 time it just doesnt post. The lights and fans always go on etc.

 

Sounds like a problem that I had with the first computer that I built. Please make sure that your memory modules are firmly seated, as that is what I finally tracked my problem to. Hope this helps.
