My computer boots up as far as "Starting windows xp screen" then shuts itself down into a endless recycle of the same thing. Any help would be appreciated as what needs to be done so I can access my document folder then I will install a new op system on it.:cry

Is it a desktop? If so, you may have an accumulation of dust inside the case causing the system to overheat and shut down. Try opening the case and carefully blowing out the sust. Do not use a vacuum.

Do you mean that the computer boots up as far as "Starting windows xp screen" and then turns itself off ... and you have to press the ON button again ....

    OR
... that the computer boots up as far as "Starting windows xp screen" and then restarts itself in an endless cycle ... ?

    What OS is on it?
Were you attempting to install Win 7 on a Vista computer? I've read today that this constant reboot occurs during an upgrade install to some people and as of this morning, there is no solution.
