computer broken

My kids were trying to hook up a cell phone to the computer to add songs. The end of the usb cable that plugs in the phone came loose in the phone. The cable was still hooked to the usb port in computer. When they plugged the phone back in, the piece that orients the cable fell off. They must have had it upside down. When they touched it to the phone, the computer died. There is a green led that flashes as long as it's plugged in but that's it. Is it terminal?
