I wasn't sure which forum to post this in, so admins feel free to move it as nessesary. I'm looking to buy my first nice 'puter chair and I was hoping for some recommendations. I'd like one with I high back (headrest) I think but other than that I'm pretty flexible. Any features/brands to look out for?

The only one who will really be able to tell you what chair you should buy is your own ass. Go sit in as many chairs as possible and see what your ass likes. Their hardware must be compatible with your software.

Generally, a chair with good lumbar support and as many adjustments as possible (tilt angle, adjustible arm rests, etc.) is recommended. Look for good cushioning in the seat. Also depends on how many hours you spend in the chair. If it is a lot, don't skimp on the price, although I had a cheap chair for a while that I found very comfortable, just didn't last very long. Like I said, no one can tell you what chair you will like.

Very true. Everbody's different in what they want in a chair. You gotta go try them on. I recently replaced my old height-adjust only chair with one from Office Depot that I caught on sale for $99, down from $129 and had a $20 off $100 coupon, so it only ended up costing $80. It's called a Raynor Patriot, and it has the 3-lever setup to adjust it just about any way you want.

I was asking because I wasn't sure of a store that had a good selection (been in Best Buy, Circuit City, and Office Max) with not much of a selection. I've found many online but it's hard to tell without sitting in them as you guys said and I've never heard of most of the brands.

i agree, because every manufacturer is going to say all there chairs are the best, so its up to you to decide which one is the best for you. just take a sat. to go to like office max, office depot and stores like that and find out which one suits you.

    My suggestions:
    1. Get something that swivels.
    2. Get something that reclines.
    3. Get something with adjustable seat height.
    4. Get something with the arms attached to the back (no free-floating back chairs).
    5. Get something with a high back.

This is actually an amazingly good chair (I've used this model) and an amazingly good price.

Funny story with my chair. I got it at Office Depot. Anyway.............When we got home we noticed that the chair was not on the reciept, so I called up there & they said that it was indeed on the register reciept. Again it was not on mine, so we drove back over there to show them it was not on my mine. They actually argued with me about if I paid for it or not. I know I had not, they said I had. Who am I to argue with a large corporation? I even called my credit card people to make sure there was no charge for the chair, sure enough there was no charge whatsoever.

As far as the right chair? Sit on them all & remember you won't be sitting on it in the store as long as you will at your puter.

I recieved my chair from best buy. They had a good deal for this leather (fake) chair for 30. I like it cept the arm rests get in the way of the desk. Make sure you like the arm rests and if they fit under the desk well if you want them under the desk.

Just get a chair with a firm straight back. The chair I have now is nice but it leans back too much and it hurts sometimes to lean forward alot. :) :)

I ended up getting the one DaChicken recommended and it's a great deal @ $39.99 after rebate. I've tried a few with softer leather... but for that price it's a sweet deal. Way cheaper tyhan anything else I've seen close to it.

edit: it has a firm straight back too and lumbar support
