    Hi,

My computer has been continually rebooting. I posted in the malware threads ( http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1469634&posted=1#p
ost1469634 ), the logs were found to be clean and so I was directed here.

I looked at the event viewer in the system logs and found many errors and warnings, all of similar nature. I clipped and copied the latest of them to notepad and have attached here in hopes they might help discover why the computer is rebooting. Would anyone assist me with this?

    Thanks in advance!

This error seems mostly related to computers on a network, but that isn't what you have.

    Two things to try:

From a command prompt, type SFC /scannow
Note the space before the /. You may be prompted for your disk.
Setting a restore point first, run dialafix, checking all boxes

Finally, does this happen in safe mode as well? Also, if you run services.msc from a run box, does the Distributed Tranaction Coordinator show as running? It normally should not and, according to www.blackviper.com, could be disabled, but this is considered a rather aggressive tweak and doesn't really identify the problem.

Maybe one of the first two steps will solve it. :wave:wave

Trying to get this down before computer reboots. I tried all the fixes you recommended. Dialafix screwed up the registry royally - deleted tons of files and couldn't complete the task. Thank goodness, I had a zip file of all the drivers and was able to reinstall with Driver Genius Pro. Almost all the settings at Black Viper corresponded with my own, I have disable DTC which I believe I had on manual.

I haven't had this rebooting happen in safe mode yet but, that doesn't mean it wouldn't. In any event, will try installing another harddrive, which I need anyway, and will take the machine to the shop for further diagnostics.

    Many thanks for your assistance.

Is it just rebooting without warning or does the Microsoft shutdown sequence run?

You need to disable auto restart if the prior is true,go to control panel, advanced sysytem settings, start up and recovery, settings and uncheck auto restart, set it to write a small memory dump.

Hopefully it will then show a BSOD and write a minidump which can be debugged,I'll go into that later.

    Hi Rikky,

Yes, the computer is rebooting without warning, and it could take several attempts before I can get back into Win. I haven't taken it to the shop yet - that would be a last option.

I believe I did find the auto restart somewhere (maybe in Administrative Tools/Computer Management) a couple of days ago and disabled it ...at this point though, I'm not sure about that - I've been through everything I could think of and I'm suffering brain fatigue. I looked again but could not find "Advanced Systems Settings" in Control Panel...is that the correct path?

...well, I've tried 4 or 5 times to upload a screamshot of My Control Panel but, it's just not going so thats, that for now..

Thanks so much for your response and help,

    ~Blu

    Hi Rikky,

I don't see my post to you. I'll try again. Yes, the computer reboots without warning - in any boot mode. I cannot find 'advanced sysytem settings' in Control Panel..I'm running Win XP 32 Pro. I think I found that setting somewhere a couple of days ago and disabled it..sounds familiar but I honestly don't remember. Anyway, is that the correct file path?

    Many thanks for your response.

    Hi Rikky,

I'd just like to thank you and the other geeks for all help extended to me. I'm posting this in the event it might help someone else in diagnosing their computer problems.

In the end, I switched out to a new harddrive and the computer is still continually rebooting. I took it to the shop and it was found that on the motherboard, there were cells which were about to explode. The technician replaced them in an attempt to fix the problem but, the computer is still rebooting, and that, with a new harddrive installed. That said, the motherboard is obviously on its last leg and may still be the problem. Back to the shop with me and the old box today, I will get a box with a new motherboard and, hope that solves the problem.
