Last sunday I did a clean install on my PC and have been re-installing software etc. Choosing no startup to keep it fast etc, However, after I ran a SANDRA 2007 test, I was told my CPU was jumping around temps 55-62c! I ran to ebay and purchased a new HSF and a new Chasis fan.

After doing some spring cleaning inside the PC, I did manage to keep those temps down to 44c average. God that was alot of dust.

Anyway, do you think these two purchases were still worth it? They will arrive aroud monday.

The Intel heat sink is an older one (it says for Socket 478). Some of those style heat sinks had copper cores, and some were just aluminum. The pics and description don't show or mention the copper core (unless I missed it). If it's not too late, try to find out if it's copper core before spending your money. The copper core HS's are MUCH better than the all aluminum.

Vacuuming out the insides of a PC is a very effective method of dropping your temperatures.

Unfortunately mate, I have allready purchased both of the fans, I was just hoping I had done the right thing.

And yes it's old, but so Is my PC. My PC's motherboard model will be 7 years old this christmas! I'm squeezing out everything out of this machine before I buy a new one. I might try and wait untill '09 when Intel release the quad-core processors.
