Recently, I've installed Windows XP to replace Windows 2000 a couple of months ago. Since then, whenever I play games or use applications that use up a good amount of the graphic card and the computer, at random times, the computer will either restart, lockup, or display a blue screen which I can't get out of that says something like this: "An error has occured 0fx...".
Sometimes it'll do this a couple of minutes after I start up the game or application, other times I'll be able to use the game or application for up to an hour without any problems.

Also, before I installed Windows XP, I had to take out my 20 GB hard drive to move the files over to another computer so they wouldn't get lost and then I reinstalled the hard drive into the computer.

    Also, I use Norton AntiVirus.

    My system specs are:

    Windows XP Proffesional
    Intel
    Pentium 4 CPU 1500 MHZ
1.50 GHz, 1.50 GB of RAM
    Geforce FX 5700
2 hard drives, 20 GB and 80 GB

Please help if you can. Thanks.

I would suggest looking to see if there are any IRQ conflicts or whatever. I had that problem in WIn2k for ages and then moved the soundcard to a different slot in the motherboard. Also try moving graphics card too see if that helps. I would also get the latest drivers for your hardware and latest directX too.

Ah, I think I found an IRQ conflict between the graphics card and the usb universal host controller. So if I move the graphics card to a different slot, will it fix the problem and do I have to do anything else, i.e. reinstalling and installing the software for it?

Your Video card is probably an AGP and if so, you can't move it because you only have 1 AGP slot.

If the only difference is the installation of XP when everything was working on 2000, then there is most likely a driver problem which could include and IRQ problem.

What do you think I should do then?

You might try cleaning the connections on the memory modules. Make sure your properly grounded. Remove the memory and gently clean the gold contacts with a pink pencil eraser and reinstall them. This helps about half the time on problems like you have described.
