I have a problem with a Dell desktop. The tower was sitting on the floor and got knocked over and now it boots up but takes a long, long time. A few windows programs will load sometimes but take 5 or 10 minutes. The machine is unusable
My question is what is most likely to be damaged with a bump like that?

Best guess is that the RAM became unseated partially. I would take the side ( or cover ) off of it with it unplugged and look for any loose connections. Make sure the RAM is fully seated.

may I add onto Tim's statement that a good chkdsk or system file checker run through wouldn't hurt.

Also, you can test your memory and HDD in your BIOS in terms of tests.
