My computer has died as it will not detect my hard-drive. Can I take this drive and install it as a slave in another computer and recover my files?
    How is this task accomplished??

you can always give it a shot.
all you will need to do is move the jumper pin on the hdd itself (in between the power & the PATA cable) if its a SATA drive just plug it in and it should go.
to set to slave, just remove the pin completely
