Computer Freeze at Desktop,Help

This ones got me,don't know what it could be. It doesnt happen all the time,but when it does GRRRRRRRRR. When I boot up my PC,it boots like normal,taskbar comes up then Icons,the Hour Glass is there then it just freezes up,Ctr Alt Del does help,Esc ect ect ( no help ). I have to shut down the PC and then boot up again then it boots up normal... This does not happen all the time,but is does happen. I've installed new drivers for monitor and viedo card and sound card,,,,,,Chit done em all. What's happening here. I have an HP XL775,512 Ram,Windows Me,,,,,Windows ME is running just great,not prolblems with it.

 

Don't know HP or ME, but can you interrupt bootup (F8 on my P2 laptop) and select bootlog.txt (same screen where you can select Safe Mode, etc.). Bootlog.txt logs all bootup processes, drivers, etc in time sequence and shows how long each process takes. It will show all processes that succeed and maybe the one that freezes (as process failed). We can go from there. BTW welcome to MG. BootLogAnalyser will allow various options to search the bootlog.txt.

Had my freeze when it had nearly finished loading.

Was using Zone alarm 5.* Firewall.

Changed to Kerio.

Problem has gone, hopefully,
