My computer has been having a freezing problem for about the past two months or so and Im just about ready to throw it out the window. The keyboard and mouse will stop working and I have to press the reset button to restart.

    My specs:

    CPU - AMD X2 6000+ Zalman Cooler
Mobo - M2N32 SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition
    HDD - Maxtor 300GB ATA
    RAM - OCZ PC6400 Platinum 2GB
    PSU - Thermaltake Toughpower 700W
    GPU - BFG 8800GT OC
Sound Card - Creative Audigy 2 ZS

I can play games, do audio editing/recording, and other intensive processes and the computer never freezes. But it seems that it will freeze during the simplest tasks (viewing pictures, copying data from drive to drive). I have updated all the drivers for all my hardware, flashed the BIOS, done hard drive diagnostics, and neither had any affect on the problem.

It often freezes when viewing pictures and usually locks up before the picture appears in the Windows picture viewer. Also, it froze more often when I would go to the NVIDIA Control Panel. This lead me to believe it was all being caused by my already damaged 7600GT. I replaced it with an 8800GT after wiping out all the old drivers and it did not fix the problem.

I'll name a few instances that I can remember where it froze and hopefully someone here may notice a pattern.

    - When viewing pictures it often freezes when it says "Drawing picture, please wait."

    - I downloaded the nTune software from NVIDIA for my 8800GT and it froze as soon as I clicked the Adjust Motherboard settings link in the control panel. It doesn't freeze every time, however.

    - I was backing up all my documents to an external drive when it froze halfway through the process. It did this twice. Once while copying, and it happened the second time just after the rest of the data was copied.

    - It freezes occasionally while surfing the Internet. Pages with lots of YouTube videos will freeze most often as I scroll down the page.

Can anybody help me? I've posted this on other forums and usually get no replies. I need this computer to do my work and I spent way too much time and money to live with this problem. Thank you.

You've done pretty much everything I would suggest from testing the HD to flashing the BIOS to replacing the video card and drivers. This leads me to believe that either the RAM or the mobo is at fault. Have you done a clean install of your OS? You may have a problem deep in the operating system. Try a clean install with a minimum of software, just use the needed drivers and no extraneous programs and see how it goes. If you still get lock ups, then IMO it's the RAM or mobo. RAM can be easily tested by any number of programs. Look here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads26.html If the RAM tests OK, contact the mobo manufacturer, hopefully it's still under warranty....

Overclocking can and will cause stability problems (freezing:p) especially if you don't know what your doing
Return your system, mobo/memory and vc to stock settings

Faulty memory or improper mem settings/timings can also cause stability issues

another thought Thermaltake is known to make crappy PSU :crap & fluff their ratings, test your PSU
