    Hi Everyone,
First, I want to thank you in advance for your help in getting this computer back in running order. I have to post this from another computer because the computer that I am working on will freeze whenever I click on any link on this site dealing with malware removal. The tools that I had to download for the scans that you recommend had to be put on a thumb drive for the same reason. The computer seems to be running a bit better now after doing the scans, but the computer still freezes when on the internet. When it freezes, my mouse will move on the screen for a little while but nothing that i click works. Not the close or the minimize, nothing. <CTRL><ALT><DEL> does nothing. My only option is to reboot. I would think that this is just a computer problem, but it only does it on the internet. If I stay off the internet, it works fine. If I want the computer to freeze quickly, I only have to visit a sight such as yours. Otherwise it will run for about 30 minutes before it freezes. I truly hope that you can help. I am attaching a couple of text files that I understand I am supposed to post. I thank you again for all your help. I hope you can help me get this pc clean again.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You need to attach the first two logs that were requested in the process
    • SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Also I see that you did not put your PC into normal startup mode with MSconfig as requested in step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. However before you do that, I want to give you a fix that will remove a ton of bad things from your msconfig registry keys. I will post this fix in my next message.

Do you have any idea what the below files are for?
    Code:
    2008-05-02 22:28 1,048,576 -ahs-- C:\Users\money\NTUSER.DAT{3a539870-6a70-11db-887c-d362bd253390}.TxR.2.regtrans-ms
    2008-05-02 22:28 1,048,576 -ahs-- C:\Users\money\NTUSER.DAT{3a539870-6a70-11db-887c-d362bd253390}.TxR.1.regtrans-ms
    2008-05-02 22:28 1,048,576 -ahs-- C:\Users\money\NTUSER.DAT{3a539870-6a70-11db-887c-d362bd253390}.TxR.0.regtrans-ms
    2008-05-02 22:28 65,536 -ahs-- C:\Users\money\NTUSER.DAT{3a539870-6a70-11db-887c-d362bd253390}.TxR.blf

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now make sure you put your PC into Normal Startup mode with MSconfig as requested in step 1 of the READ ME.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Also don't forget to attach the logs from
    • SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    chaslang:

Thank you so much for your quick reply. I hope that we can get the computer running good again so that I do not take up to much of your precious time. Sorry that I forgot to attach those logs and have the computer booted in Normal mode. One of the log files that you asked for, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, I could not attach because I could not get the program to run. Every time I did a scan with that program, the computer would freeze at the c:\windows\fonts folder. I tried it on 3 different occasions and it crashed at that location each time. I will, however, post the other log file that you were asking about.

I have no idea what those files are for or what they are doing there.

I followed those instructions to the T but when ComboFix ran it produced an error saying something about The System cannot execute the following program. Then the computer reboots and no log file is produced.

I did receive a message about the registry merge being successful. I booted the computer into Normal Mode after I ran CCleaner. I will post the following logs:
    MGlogs.zip
    SuperAntispyware

As mentioned earlier, I can not post the other two logs that you requested due to program errors or system freeze when running.

Okay we will try to fix this using another method as given below.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixSU.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.
    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Thanks again for your help. I wish that I had some better news for you, but I fear that alot of those files were still not deleted for one reason or another. I think that the names are being changed or something. After avenger finished, it said that it was successful but much of the log said 'file not found'. I will post the logs, however, and let you determine the next step. The computer is a laptop and, as such, gets shut down every night. On a brighter note, the registry fix appeared to be successful. A message appeared saying that it was successful. The computer is not running much better right now, though. It still freezes A LOT!

As a last note: If the file names are changing, as I suspect they are, then they will probably have changed since the logs were generated :( The computer froze and had to be re-booted after the logs were generated.

Since your logs are almost clean, this may point towards non-malware issues.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BearFlix] "C:\Program Files\BearFlix\BearFlix.exe" /pause
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmipd.exe] C:\Windows\system32\dmipd.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmkug.exe] C:\Windows\system32\dmkug.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmhla.exe] C:\Windows\system32\dmhla.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dmxlh.exe] C:\Windows\system32\dmxlh.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Also delete all files and subfolders in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\Users\money\AppData\Local\Temp

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.

    Then attach the below log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    chaslang:

Thank you for being patient. I had to take that computer back to the owner and have been making trips to their house to do the fixes when I get the chance. The last few days have just been hectic between work and school and other problems, but I will do those steps and post another reply when I get the chance. Thank you again for being patient and please do NOT close this thread quite yet.

    chaslang:

Sorry for the long delay. I promise it will not take so long next time. I followed the steps that you gave and everything went pretty smooth. It still freezes in the middle of select web pages, but if the computer is clean it must be a problem with the computer itself. Here is the log file that you requested. All in all, the computer is running much better. It just seems to freeze in the middle of loading certain web pages. Thanks so much for taking the time to help me out with this problem

Your logs are clean. Your remaining issues may just be related to software that is running or how it is configured or the websites being accessed.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. You can uninstall SUPERAntiSpyware now.
    2. We recommed you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as a scanner. It uses no resources except a little disk space until you run a scan.
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop & renamed it like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\cf" /u
        • Notes: The space between the cf" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\cf folder from combofix.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    7. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    8. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    9. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    10. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    11. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    12. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
