Computer Freezes, Screeches When Restarted

My computer frequently freezes during standard tasks (surfing, watching videos, etc.) and I'm forced to restart it by holding down the power button. When I do, the computer emits a high-pitched screech from the speakers. I'm not sure what the problem is, but the freezing is becoming a nuisance.

Thanks in advance for the help.

What version of Windows, and what errors are showing in Administrative Tools > Event Viewer?

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and there are several errors. Here are the common ones:

Those are not common. You have some serious issues. Try doing a Repair install and see what happens. Those errors you are showing, appears to be from you doing a hard shutdown, without properly shutting it down. Run 'sfc /scannow' without the quotes in a Command window as Administrator.

Sorry. Wasn't saying they are common for computers to have, but that they are common errors in the Event Viewer.

I have to do a hard shutdown when it freezes. There's no other way to remedy the situation.

I ran that command and it didn't do much. It ran through the verification phase then, after reaching 100%, closes.

You can download the SysInternals tools from microsoft.com and use Process Monitor to watch what happens. What programs are you running at the time that it freezes (ie Torrant program, game, browser, Anti-Virus/Anti-malware)?

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb842062 There is also this hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2265716/en-us

Also keep in mind, hardware can cause the issue that you are having. Plenty of hits if you do a search on the subject "Windows 7 64 bit freezes".

It happens randomly - running a torrent program, surfing online, watching a movie.

There doesn't seem to be a specific program that sets it off.

Something is setting it off. Again, Hardware is usually the main culprit.
