Hi there! I'm trying to figure out why my computer is shutting off or freezing when I play video games. Basically I'll be playing something I.e. WoW or more recently Divinity Original Sin II (only about 5 mins in due to repeated freezing/shut downs) all of a sudden everything freezes and I can hear the last note or whatever of whatever sound was coming out of the speakers during the freeze.. the sound coming out almost sounds like a buzzer. I also noticed that the air coming out the back of the case is very hot when this happens. So I'm guessing its overheating? Well I'm not very saavy when it comes to stuff like this and major geeks forums has always come to the rescue for me so I thought I'd post here and see if there is anyone who can help me troubleshoot this problem.

    Thanks!

Specs: 16g RAM GTX 970 AMD FX 9370 off the top of my head that's what I know

Yup, sounds like it is overheating.

It's a tower that I put together myself. It's about 3 years old now.

Take off the side cover and blow the dust out. Someone may suggest a better graphics card.

As TimW said,- If you built this yourself , then I would next think about upgrading the heatsink I found copper ones very good)-and check the thermalpaste - I use Artic silver ceramic, myself- http://arcticsilver.com/# - the thing with any thermal paste is less is more efficient, as you just need to fill any microscopic air pockets.
Some heatsinks are quite large, so , if using for games, reduce overheating.

Access Denied as you do not have sufficient privileges.
You have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode.

This is the message I get when trying to run the check disk

You must be signed in to Windows with a full Administrator account. If you are running Windows 7,8 or 10 (you should always tell us that what OS at the beginning of every help thread) you need to use an Administrator Command Prompt.

In the search bar....type in cmd. When the answers appear...command prompt....right click and select Run as Admin.

Another way to access an elevated Command Prompt is to click on start, Windows system, right click Command Prompt....click on More...choose Run as Admin.
