I have a friend who's having problems with the WiFi adapter in her notebook.

She is able to connect to networks, but after about a minute, the computer will freeze, and she will have to perform a force shutdown (as in hold the power button).

It's a Dell notebook, so I'm guessing that it's an Intel WiFi adapter. She's running Windows XP on the notebook.

Does that sound like a driver problem, or is it faulty hardware?

Are they using the dell wireless program or is it the windows one?

Yeah, are you connecting to the wireless using some software or using windows own network discovery?

She is connecting using the Dell WiFi manager.

Thanks for the clue. I'll try it out the next time I see her and then I'll report back.
