    Hello,

Recently my computer has been acting strangely after I completed a complete reformat. while gaming basically the computer will randomly freeze for 1-2 seconds, Then I will hear a "click" come from inside the pc. After the click everything returns to normal and the computer is completely fine.

It doesn't happen very often Maybe once every 1-2 hours.

If anyone has any idea what this could be I'd really appreciate some advice! Also sorry if this is posted in the incorrect forum I have no idea if it is software or hardware related?!

The only click I know of coming from inside the computer is the hard drive. Run a couple tests to check it out. Maybe start with chkdsk /f from a command prompt.

Why the reformat? Was a problem showing up beforehand?

    Hi guys

I for some reason thought it was the hard drive making the sound to, I have 2 solidstate hard drives in there and its my first time using them so i thought it might have been normal to get the click sound. I did actually perform a disc check earlier today before posting and it came back clean.

The reformat was because the computer is getting older now and was very cluttered up, I thought it would be good to have a clean slate again. possibly a bad choice.

Sorry for not posting specs etc here they are.

    Hi,

I have checked all the fans and they are clear. The sound is hard to describe but its almost like a switch is being triggered.. I don't really know how to explain it other than that.

Its definitely related to the lock ups.

    1. The computer will freeze completely
    2. about 1-2 seconds later the click noise will happen
    3. After the click everything is running fine and back to normal as far as i can tell.

Also Ive been monitoring the CPU/GPU temps over the last hour and I also check the case/fans for dust and they are looking pretty clean.

    Temps:
    CPU: 48c max temp recored.
    GPU: Steady 55-65c.

The CPU under max load from prime95 was around 70c so I'm almost sure overheating isn't the problem. Alot of the games I play dont push my system hard.

    Thanks for your assistance.

I should add that one doesn't happen without the other, I never hear that click sound unless its after the freeze and the computer never freezes, locks up without that click sound happening just after.

Only other click sound I can think of would be a capacitor discharging to ground. Larger one sound like a pistol going off. The largest in a pc would be in the power supply. The only reasons I think of that this could happen would be wear and tear, charging to too high a voltage and maybe dust accumulation allowing a path to ground. Also have you checked event viewer for a sequence of errors when this happens?

Hmm it doesn't really sound like a pistol, Its a quiet click. It also sometimes happens when my computer has be Idle for a while and I try to launch a program. It almost sounds like its turning something back on from stand by?

I checked the event viewer last time it happened and there were no signs of error.

Sorry Avatar01. I wasn't too clear. I meant larger ones - like maybe oil can size make more noise, assuming smaller ones like inside a pc could relate to a switch like clicking.

My only other thoughts could be a fan but musksnipe allready brought that up. I have seen that on other post - maybe a bearing seizing up.

    Sorry for the confusion there.

Hey guys thanks for the help.

Unfortunately I cannot make it click as far as I know. Its usually only happens about every 1-2 hours of use. I will try to monitor voltages when it happens next. What tool can I use for this? I have a few things but none of them seem to monitor those voltages.

No problem Imandy mann, I get it now ha! thanks :)
