Hello there again. This post in regards to the frequent and systematical freezing that my computer is going through. Whether I am just booting my PC or going to browse the Internet, it just freezes. I have even uninstalled my AGP Card and it's drivers and all that too, but that's not it. There are times that I can be on my PC for hours without freezing, but then there are times that I have only been on it for less that 5 minutes. Is there any way that I can find out what is causing this problem? Whether it is just a standard program that I need or if I need to go shopping for computer parts.

    Thank you kindly

Well I would always suspect over-heating to start with. Check that the CPU fan is spinning correctly and isn't clogged with dust bunnies.

If you are running XP, you can look at the system logs and might find something that is trying to run and can't. Start/Settings/ControlPanel/AdministrativeTools/EventViewer

Another cause of trouble is a nearly full or badly fragmented hard drive.

I thank you guys for your help. Another thing that I might have to mention is, my Athlon 64 Processor is set to 100Mhx CPU Clock speed. I would like to know if I can safely overclock it and to how many Mhz.

    Thanks again

First off: the lock ups may be due to RAM problems or (as mentioned above) a hard drive problem. Run a memory diagnostic (free download in the Diagnostics section) for at least an hour to see if your memory is flakey. Then download and run the diagnostic for your brand of hard drive. All the hard drive manufacturers have 'em for download at their web sites.
Second: I was under the impression that most (if not all) Athlon 64's run at 133 or 166 or 200 FSB (I might be wrong). If you're running at 100 and it should be 166, you're underclocking and not even running at the CPU's normal speed. As far as overclocking goes, there are good guides to overclocking all over the internet (I think there's one here at 'The Geeks') that can show you how to go about it SAFELY. Be sure you have more-than-adequate cooling. If you think you have too many fans, add one more ;) !

Thanks again Hopperdave. Happy New Year to you too mate.

I know that my processor is a AMD Athlon, it is about 5 years old and it's default is 100MHZ, I actually think that I have given you the wrong processor model. Here is the actual information: It is a AMD Athlon (tm) MMX 3DNOW ~1.3Ghz and I am using 768Mb of RAM. My motherboard is still an GA 7VKML Motherboard from Gigabyte and that is getting a little old too. I am getting a new Sempron Processor with 8x BUS Speed, I am sure that is overclockable. I have to update all this because The Sims 2 are a very high demanding game. I have a Sapphire Radeon 256Mb Graphic Accelerator, but my Processor speed is still a little too slow when dealing with such a high demanding graphic and Processor speed engine. I will go and check out these programs that will help my computer and please have a safe and prosperous 2007.

If it's an an Athlon 64 then it can't be five years old as that chip only came out in September 2003. rolleyes
