My computer randomly freezes up. I am ALWAYS able to move my cursor and if I ctrl+alt+del, task manager pops up. I can even move things around. However, whatever the current page/folder/etc is becomes frozen. I can click on stuff in my taskbar but it just freezes. After awhile, my comp just completely freezes up and I hear a noise coming from inside my case. At that point I have to do a hard reboot. This all happened after one time while playing a game when my computer randomly restarted by itself. I then got a message saying something like "a device has been installed". I've already ran multiple thorough virus/adware/malware/registry scans and nothing came up. Drivers are fine, video card is fine, fans are fine. No BSoDs and no other noticable issues besides freezing up randomly. Im really stumped on what is causing this problem.

I think an important thing to note is that I used a system restore point set to 4 days back before any symptoms occured. I still had the problem

Well, more info on your box would help. Laptop/Desktop, brand, GPU, CPU, PSU, cooling installed...

If it is a desktop, take the side panel off and make sure the heatsinks are clean and the fans spin when you boot it up.

like I said, video card, fans, cooling are all perfectly fine. It's a Quad Core 6600 with a Corsair TX750W PSU, and 2x 1GB OCZ PC6400 ram. I've already cleaned everything thoroughly

nope not yet I'll do it tonight. What do u think the chances are that ram is the culprit?
