Hello all I am normally pretty good at fixing my own computer but I am dumbfounded on this problem. My current setup is a Intel 2.8 GHZ processor, Geforce 6500 AGP video card, 1 gig (2x512) memory running Windows XP service pack 3. My problem started while I was watching an .avi file on my system. While watching this video the whole computer locked up. I attempted a Cntl, ALT, Del but nothing worked. I used the old on/off switch and restarted the system. Now all it does is show a power light on the front and the hard drive activity light comes on but the drives don’t spin up. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for all your help.

Hi thats not at all weird it happens......
    Happens to me sometimes.....

Your going to have to trouble shoot it ....to find the problem.....
Hopefully your board didnt die and its a small problem.....
Your pretty good at fixing them...software or hardware problems....?????

I've had similar problems in the past, a number of different things have resolved the problem.
I've reseated the RAM, sometimes that works.
I've reseated the CMOS battery, that also worked on some of the fixes.
While I was that deep in my computer (it was a laptop) I also cleaned out a lot of dust which helped later.

I don't know if this applies to your computer, but mine was a dell that has a set of light codes when you hold Ctrl or Shft and the power button for five seconds. There is then some combination of Cap/Num/Power lights that can tell you info about the motherboard. In my case that info was your motherboard is done, but might be something else to explore.

Sorry for being vague, just things that I've encountered in the past.

Sounds like your power supply died.

Thanks everyone I believe it was hardware but I don't know if it was the MB, Processor or video card. I replaced the CPU, Motherboard, Memory, and Video card and was able to recover all my data. Thanks again for pointing me in the direction of hardware, I first thought I might have gotten a virus.

I have a similiar problem, I have an AMD Sempron 3000 w/ 2 gb of ram 1.8 GHz, and a Geforce 6600 agp video card; running Xp Sp3. Well it froze up during a video and eventually I did a hard reset, now it will not reboot and will go past the Microsoft screen get some blue screen image but I cannot make out what it says...I have reseated my ram, cmos battery, video card while letting it sit overnight. does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it. I really do not want to reformat my hard drive. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
