Every once in a while my computer starts going crazy, making the mouse jump, create menus and close windows. It ususally lasts about a second or two and I'm starting to get worried.

I'm running Windows XP, I have Kaspersky as an anti virus and an active firewall though I think it's a windows firewall... A scan for viruses came out clean. I also emptied my computer of spyware using Ad-Aware.

Any ideas what this could be?

I would also run this app, it will search for some of the things that some AVs miss, trojans, dialers, keyloggers etc

Do you have all the current windows critical updates and what service pack are you using?

the windows firewall, albiet a good attempt, will only block incoming data, it does not block outgoing data, you would be better served by one of the free firewalls that do both,

ZoneAlarm is the more popular choice and is easy to setup.

when this happens are you using your mouse to try close the menus etc that are opening? is your mouse USB?

It's not a usb mouse and when it happens it's like the computer is having a seizure or something... I can't really do anything until it finishes, which it does pretty quickly...
I do have all the critical updates, and the scan found nothing.

next check the Event Viewer logs for anything around the time this happened, it may with luck highlight an app thats causing the problem.

How do I check that? Should I have that program running or is it a windows thing?
