    Hi all,

firstly, i may not know the correct language when explaining stuff, so bare with me please.

I'm having problems with my new laptop. its a Sony fs295vp
it is running XP, it has antivir personal edition premium, ad aware and MS spy ware running. they are all up to date and i have no virus or ad aware problems

OK, at first it was running just fine, but as i added more stuff, something somewhere went astray. I mean, I’d added Google Earth, Google video, etc.

but when i took my laptop to work, it took ages to move from the blue welcome screen to having it ready to use. I thought it might be because i had so many things running so uninstalled what was not necessary. however, still took the same amount of time (around four mins).

Last week, IE closed and the error message sent me to a solution page. I inadvertently downloaded two ms fixes (cannot recall which) which meant I had to start in safe mode and take my system back to the day before as I kept getting an ‘DEP’ error message and I could not access my computer at all. However, the slow starting came before that.

What I’ve done is tried to remove programs I have installed to see if they are responsible, for instance, micro soft spy ware, my Antivir, etc. nothing seems to speed it up. I eventually removed Roxio 6 but to no avail.
my final idea was to do another system restore. i've tried to do it for three differnt dates now. it goes through the process but at the end says it has not been able to and no changes have been made to my system

I cannot understand why it would take so long. other things i do not understand so might be related:
    1. Recovery Partition G suddenly appeared on my computer and is taking 7 gig of drive
    2. IE seems to loose its connection meaning i have to re-sign on to sights i'm using (when they're left alone).
    3. I have 58 processes running my task manager
    4. my dvd/cd burner plays but is not found when I want to burn anything

I also have QSL which starts up and runs in the tray. It is my Micro soft but I’ve not idea what it is and it does not give me the option of it not starting. My friend said it was about a server (whatever that means). Tut.

Any suggests and if you need any more information, just ask

That alone is enough to slow your PC right down. Either you can try to get rid of all these processes or format and reinstall XP.

To get rid of all these un-needed processes you could use a drive cleaner utility from this site.

Start by unistalling everything you don't absolutely need. Next run the READ ME FIRST sticky in Spyware, just to make sure your system is clean. A reinstall of XP is the last thing you want to do.
