Computer hangs installing software

My cordless MS optical mouse stopped working , so i tried to reinstall the cd again . and after you get so far in the install it just hangs . tried to download it from the site and it does the same thing
did a few virus scans . [clean]. defraged , and ran cc cleaner . still the same . Windows XP . any help would be appreciated . plugged in the ball mouse , it works fine .

 

Try uninstalling again, restart regardless of outcome, and reinstall. ed

 

tried that tunered , even shut down the anti virus ..
just hangs 3/4 into the install . task manager shows it is running , but processor is sitting on 0 .

Check your disc that you are installing with, see if any scratch's or junk is on the disc. I have seen older drives do this to, like they get hot and stop. ed

 

It installs on my other computer . Besides it hangs at the same spot from the online download . So i know it is not the disk . could there be a corrupt file hidden some were that didn't delete ?
