    Hello Everyone

I have a gateway Computer, i started it stays on for ten seconds, then shuts off. i had an extra harddrive on hand, so i replaced it, thinking it may be that, but not. I also replaced the power supply, but nothing, the lights turn on, the fans turn, everything turns on, but then shuts off, Any techs have any suggestions, on what to do. greatly appreciated.

Try resetting the BIOS - unplug the PC, remove the coin-size battery from the motherboard, wait about 30 seconds and re-insert it. Plug the PC back in and start it up. If this works, the only thing you'll have to do is reset the date and time (press "F2" to get into the BIOS screen to do this).

If this doesn't work, borrow a power supply tester and test both the old and new one. If the new power supply is a generic (cheap) one, it could be DOA.

If neither of these tips solve the problem, post a follow-up.

    Hope this helps. :)

    Hello

I removed the round battery, waited thirty seconds, but the when i turn it on, it does not give me enough time, to hit F2, it shuts off right away. i plugged the power supply to the tester, i have and it seems to be fine.
    any other suggestions.

    Thanks

Sounds like too much heat to me. Does your CPU fan run? Use an empty paper towel tube to listen in when the sucker boots.

Thermal goo on cpu might need to be reapplied. Does the cpu heat sink look dusty? That might need a good cleaning too.
One or more fans inside your case might be non-operational.
