Some days are worse that others, but in the last week my computer has slowed down to the point it takes outlook a couple of minutes to totally load. Internet Explorer will take 30 to 60 seconds to load when it use to pop up as soon as I douple clicked the icon. Even my printer took 10 plus min. to print an excel spreadsheet a couple of days ago. Now the printer is acting fine????

Anyway, I think you get the point...any clues????

The computer is a PIII 733 with 256k of memory running on XP sp1.

Like I said earlier, this machine was just fine for an office computer but the the slow down happened overnight!

Check your task manager and see if there is any particular program using an unusual amount of CPU resources.

To get to TaskManagert go to start --> run .. type TASKMGR
    look at your processes tab.

Thanks for the help so far!

I cleared the temp files but it did not help.

    TASKmgr:
The only things that I saw was AcroRD.exe at 35k, 4 svchost running, and CCAPP.exe going from 12k to 18k

The CPU usage is running at 100%!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thanks,
    Ben

I ran adaware two days ago but I have not run any type of spybot. I will go download it and then run it and let you know.

    Thanks,
    Ben

you need to look at your PROCESS tab not the APPLICATIONS tab. In the process list, find the applicaiton that is using your CPU @ 100%.

and if you're going to do anything regarding spyware:

WOW, whatever spybot fixed seems to be the ticket right now. CPU usage is still spiking every once in awhile but it is not stuck on 100% anymore.

I will watch it for a couple of hours and get back to u guys!

Thanks again for all your replies!!!!

Make sure Ad-Aware is updated with the latest definitions too. And you can download this program and see what things are opening on startup, and using up resources. And make sure you take Kodo's advice too! He's a brain! :)
