I have been having trouble with my computer and the internet connection the past couple of days. Whenever I interact with something on my computer my whole screen jerks, like if I move my mouse or push a button on my keyboard all the icons move and flicker. Also I cannot connect on the internet with my laptop, I am using the desktop computer right now to write this but also sometimes my desktop computer internet connection will crash. I'd really like to figure out this bizzare problem that I am having so I can get back on the internet for my schooling.

Sounds like a possible virus problem. What protection are you using?

Norton Antivirus but it has expired, do you know of any other free virus protection programs?

Well, I suggest you either renew your subscription to Norton or remove it and get another anti-virus program. Some good freeware is available. See what all is available from majorgeeks.com here. I'm using AVG AntiVirus Free Edition 8.0. Other popular ones are Avira AntiVir Personal and Avast! Home Edition.

Many forum members prefer not to use Norton. It has a reputation, in recent years, of being a resource hog, meaning it slows your computer. Norton can be difficult to remove. You may need to Download and run the Norton Removal Tool.

If you try removing it the normal way and then installing one of the other anti-virus programs, and find that you get a message during attempted installation saying you have another anti-virus program installed and so you can't install the new program, that's a sign you need to use the Norton Removal Tool.

Can you get online to download software?

Have you heard of any problems similar to mine, and do you think downloading an antivirus program will solve my problem?

Edit: I am uninstalling Norton right now and am going to install the AVG program.

Viruses can cause a myriad of strange behaviors. I can't say for sure that you have a virus but, given that your Norton is expired, you should correct this situation, whether the source of the problem is a virus or something else.

Eliminating a virus as the culprit will provide evidence the cause is something else. So, it's troubleshooting step.

My Internet Connection is disabled and it won't let me enable it, it will just give me an error saying Connection failed. Does anyone know what the deal is, it was working fine just a couple of days ago.

You probably have got yourself some nasties from the net. Spyware/Malware/Trojans and/or Viruses. Download from Majorgeeks - the following ... Ad-aware, Spybot and Malwarebytes - all free together with one of the antivirus programmes that usafveteran suggested. If you cant get your adsl connection working try using a dialup (slow but steady!!). Best not to be connected to the internet for very long until you have your antivirus installed and running. Then do a full system scan of everything with all of them - takes time but well worth it. Malwarebytes is a particularly good programme to use and when you have sorted it out don't forget to scan regularly with all these programmes especially if you are accessing some 'doubtful' sites sometimes - they are renowned for spyware and other crap.

I've been doing all the scans from all programs listed, and deleted whatever it detected that was a threat but it still has not fixed any of my problems.

I'm lost on what to do, I have been trying to figure out the problem for almost a week now.
