Computer just shutsdown no error message PLEASE HELP!!!

I dont know what is wrong my comp. would just shut down in a middle of a video or playing a game or even idle, downloading somthing. i dont overclock and comp idle temp is 38c.

ati 9200 se 128mb
2x 256mb of kingston ram
230w antec power supply

That's the problem - upgrade that to about 350W and it shouldn't shut off.

 

I think your PSU is not stable any more, Check Volt report in bios PC health

 

I'm going psu aswell,out of interest,could you post the manufacture date written on the side of the psu,I dont think I have ever owned a 230w psu,my p2 350 had a 250watt in,when I upgraded to a T-bird 800,it started to smell burnt,the insides had gone black,it held up for 5 months until I replaced it and didnt fail though,quality pc world parts.lol

 

hm ... I'm running on a 200w PSU right now ... this comp has been working flawlessly for 3 years(watch it burn out tonight ) .. of course it's 1.4GHz celeron w/ integrated graphics so power requirements aren't exactly high .. but a P4 is going to need much more than that

 

just incase your interested pirate,it had a 350mhz p2,ati works 32mb and had 64mb ram,I upgraded to a tbird athlon 800mhz,256mb pc 100,power colour geforce 2 32mb,which 6 or so years ago cost me £160 for the video card.

The PSU was crap though,pc world in the UK is the same as dell,BUT my 7 year old PCWORLD case is sat beside me right now,with an xp 1900 and 6800 gt inside,standard atx,lol.

Heres my 7 year old case and the video card it protects,thats worth about 50x as much as it,Packard bell,lol

 

yeah i have a 550 but its to loud when i changed it to the antec i ran perfectly for about 3months and just now i stared having problems

 

Anyone got any nice psu or know of a place to get them cheap other then newegg i only need a very quiet one.

I recommend the enermax noisetaker series of psu's,the reviews put this psu at the top and was my first choice when building my latest comp,they have all the features you would want in a psu and then some,my favourite psu at the moment though is tagan,I had bad luck with them but thier psu's are just about the best you can buy at the moment IMHO,the build quality and stability is unsurpassed and the investment in a good psu will be the building blocks for your next computer.

 

I agree. Most uhhh individuals (I was going to say Newbs but I hate and despise that word) think the larger the power supply the better)

Anyway, the typical computer usually only uses 150 to 200 watts. (unless you are using a high-end video card)

 

If your PSU it did not support eough for all hardwares, It will make them hoter and You can not get a stable computer system to get a high score

EnerMax nosetaker is good but it is more expensive than other at the same power.

 

A computer will only use that amount of power but that figure should not be used when deciding which psu to buy,the psu manufacturers have ways of getting around the stated wattage figure of thier said psu,each company tests thier psu differently,cheaper companies use the method that gives there psu the highest rating,they chill the psu down or give a theoretical performance figure,they state the maximum load the psu can take for 10secs before it explodes some just plain lie,so although that 100-200w may seem conservative it can be quite burden for some psu's even if they are rated 600w.

The quality brands use actual real world performance numbers that the psu can achieve,if you pushed an enermax or tagan for 10 secs,or chilled it to 0 degrees c,they could probably quote them at 1000w.

Looks good to me,silentpcreview has the 475w noisetaker in thier recommended list,the cons were stiff cables and the fans were a little too loud at low speed,but they should have fixed that in the 485,a few good featrures of the noisetakers I like are an em shielded extra power for your video card,manual control of the fans and it keeps your fans running for a few mins after the comp has shut down to stop heat pooling.

Also check this out its the x-connect modular psu,you only have to plug in the cables you need to minimize cable clutter,they are all uv reactive aswell,a stable psu not quite as strong as the enermax but it looks awsome,if looks are what you are into.

That 's right I agree with Rikky. Enermax is so Expensive more others with the same power but it is verry stable for Oc.

 

Ok now i got another problem i found my old 550w and decided to try it before i buy a new psu sense the 550 is in perfect condition but to loud thats y i didnt use it. But now same problem i turn on my comp wanna watch a DVD just started boom shuts off, now im think it could be my motherboard because i got it refurbished off neweeg iv never had much problems with it, but could it being refurbised be the prob or is it my ram????

I think this problem is softs Just try to remove softs and reinstall it or you try others for testing. if it still happen :
Using memtset softs, running at safemode, burnning at full load by Toast or other softs like that, and the last one is reinstall OS. You can download These softs at our webside.

 

Ok that was the first thing i did i ran memtest and in the middle of it i just move the mouse and comp shut off so i just reinstalled OS and still didnt fix it iv typed this message about 2 times already because of my comp shuting off on me.

 

Did you load bios at DF and check t* of CPU, take a look at PC heath did you see the parameters is alright ? could you tel us the parameters.

verry nice paremeters and the remain problem is mainboard and ram, intel CPU it rarely get bad, could you put ram in other mainboard for testing.

 

ok i think i know what the prob is its my mobo because i took my bros stick of 512mb 400mhz and put it in started playing Matrix online just started and boom shut off now im not sure witch mobo to get thinking of going with a ASUS

 

In my opinion, Asus, Abit, and DFI is good at now.

 

Backstaber there are many things you can try before you have to part with cash.-
Reinstall windows,update from microsoft,update mobo drivers,update mobo bios,update video card drivers,sound card drivers.

Check your comp for spyware,adware,viruses you can post a hijack this log in the spyware forum and see if your comp is infected.

 

I've ran into computers in the past that would crash with errors. Usually pointed to 0x000007a. Anyway, I'd run numerous memory check programs and it all points to bad memory. Then I slap in known good memory. Same issues. Then I decided to say bad mobo.

Then, slam bam thankyou ma'am, I had an idea. Is there a bios update on the motherboard? THere was indeed. I updated the mainboard (motherboard) and since then, no problems.

Yet, another question, is this DDR? What about Dual DDR?

 

I'd recommend checking www.directron.com It's a PC parts outlet based in Texas. I've puchased a lot of stuff from them and have no complaints (I actually built my current 3ghz pc with parts purchased from them). They have a myriad of power supplies - and about anything else you could want.

 

its not dual channel just 2 sticks of ddr

 

iv formated my comp 2 times and updated everthing exept bios

 

A pair of ddram put in 2 slot on main and it must be supported dual channel

 

nope i was amazed to find out that it didnt

 

Thank u all fror helping out it was my mobo and video card both my video card cuz the fan fried that is y it my comp shut down and my mobo screwed up with the lan card getting fried
