Computer keeps restarting itself

I mention in another thread my family was given a computer windows 2000. And I was unable to log in due to no login names and passwords (tried administrator and password blank/etc..)Anyways Now my second computer she was given was a windows xp on a compaq (hopefully its compaq) anyways I turn it on, it goes slow loading the white bars at the bottom. Then when it does it really fast goes to black screen with press f8 and etc.. then it goes out and tries to load(at this time it just goes back to the beginning I believe and keeps doing that. I've tried messing with the system and see if I was able to do anything(nothing really) any help?

 

Power up the PC and hit the F8 key. This will get you to the advanced options menu.
Use the arrow keys and scroll down to Last Know Good Config and hit enter.
Does the Pc bootup? Else try Safe mode. Let us know what happens, could be hardware. Do you get an error code

No error codes. I have tried the last known(does nothing) really It starts up and goes back to loading then back to the screen with safe mode safe mode with network, etc... and I tried them all... really :cry

 

Is the CPU fan spinning along with the rest? If there is more than one stick of ram try booting on a single one. Try each stick in different slots to see if it will boot.
If you know the Xp version try and get hold of the OS CD and see if you can boot from it and run a repair install.

I don't have no disk. Ill try the stick tho when I get home.

 

You might want to get a can of compressed air and try cleaning out the vents - it could just be overheating.
