Computer Keeps Restarting

Everytime my computer boots up, it allows me to log in and it loads the desktop like normal except for it will restart after about 3 minutes for what seems like no reason. I've tried booting up in safe mode with the same result.

Does anybody have any ideas how i can fix this.

Currently am using a Compaq Presario 2100 laptop with 1024 MB of RAM, ‎mobile AMD Athlon(tm) XP2600+ processor, dualbooting Windows XP Pro SP3 w/Office Small Business, and PCLinuxOS 2009 BETA. My guess would be you are running two firewalls and or possibly two antiviruses. If you are using a third party firewall (Norton, TrendMicro, McAfee) then be sure Windows firewall is disabled. Should only be running one antivirus and one firewall at a time. :confused

My guess would be that maybe you have a nasty little virus. But perhaps you just have sofware that's glitchy, :heli Perhaps you can try using Task Manager and see what program is most active just before reboot commences. Process Explorer might be a little more effective.

I have a gateway (i forget the exact model #) running windows vista. I'll make sure only one firewall / antivirus is running.

Yesterday my computer did find a virus but i deleted the file it said it was in and it worked fine until today when it failed at installing an update. I tried using the system restore feature but it says there is an error in my hard drive and gives me the option to run a program to fix the error, which i do and it says it found and fixed 1 error. So i go back to system restore and it still says there's an error.

If i could get it to stay running for a little bit i would be able to run a virus scan in safe mode but it restarts before i'm able to do that.

 

I checked out the process list just prior to starting and found that these process were running:

SmcGui.exe
csrss.exe
winlogon.exe
ccApp.exe
LogonUI.exe
explorer.exe
SyntPEnh.exe
taskmgr.exe
taskeng.exe

all the process seem normal to me but one thing i noticed is that some of them i think 2 start up right before it restarts. I know one of them is 'taskeng.exe' but it goes too quick for me to tell what the other one is. I'm pretty sure that taskeng.exe is the scheduled task manager, so is it possible for there to be a scheduled task restarting the computer
