I was here recently to get help because my computer turns itself on during the night. Then after the 10 mins I set for sleep it goes back to sleep. It does this more than once a night. I used powercfg -last wake & found that it was the AMD USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller. (I'm on an old HP desktop running 8.0) I went to Device Mgr to try to use Power Management to turn off the automatic start. I discovered that there was no Power Management tab. A big surprise was that I also found two identical AMD USB xHCI Compliant Host Controllers. Friendly name is AMD USB 3.0 extensible Host controller - 0096(Microsoft for both). (Mfg) AMD Generic USB xHCI Host Controller. That's the extent of my knowledge about this subject. Since they are identical I was tempted to get rid of one but I don't know enough. I have no clue at this point. I need to know more about this & then back to how I stop the wake ups. Thanks.

Its possibly sounds like a hardware device (USB) maybe be waking your system from sleep!
USB flash drives, mice and keyboards are common issues with this.

Access 'Device Manager' on your system.
In the list of hardware categories under USB, make sure all these devices are not set to wake you system.
Double click each device in turn, click the 'Power Management tab, then clear the check-box that says 'Allow this device to wake computer', the click OK.
    Re-Boot and Re-Test.

A program or scheduled task might also be waking your computer.
By default, Power Option settings do not allow scheduled tasks to wake the computer from sleep or hibernate. however, some programs might awaken the computer if these settings have been changed.

Unfortunately I did all of the things that you've written about. I even unplugged one USB device every night to eliminate them. I set all of the Power Management tabs. I have an external drive that wakes the computer at 3 am during two nights a week to backup the system and files. I set it that way. It works. Nothing else is set to wake. Power Option is 5 mins for monitor and 10 mins for hard drive.

I can't figure out why the computer is woken by AMD USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller but when I put in my wake command that's what I'm always getting. I'm confident that I've learned how to correctly find the wake up reason. I use the powercfg -lastwake command. One or two of these Host Controllers (who needs two of the exact same thing? That's a whole other issue) come up. They don't have Power Management tabs & I've looked through their settings. Google searches haven't helped.
    Thank you

Unless your client system is designated for server control, I don't see why you shouldn't 'Power down' each night and just do backups whilst you have it booted during normal daily operation?
Problems can be encountered with hardware and software if your desire is too leave your system active all night (24/7).

Why not set all Power Options to 'Never' within the control panel?

I wish that I could power it all the way down. I have a lot of power up issues. Sometimes it can take more than an hour. Some times I have to go into safe mode (which scares me because I don't know much.) This has gone on for over a year and it was HP's suggestion to keep it in sleep mode (I wish I understood that problem better.)
So setting the power off all of the way is a nightmare. I don't understand what bizarre problems make it so hard to power up completely but it's not related to these recent issues.
I've avoided figuring out the power off problem. I don't like to keep operating without knowledge. I have some time to try and understand what's going on there. For now I am determined to learn what the AMD USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller is. On top of this wake up problem I'd like to know why I have two. Having two exact "Controllers" might be a big problem. I don't know.
Am I wrong that using the Power Options tells the computer when to sleep and not when to shut down completely? I use it all of the time.

Your power up issues may be software/malware related, or even hardware related.....I dont know?

This MAY be related to other issues your experiencing so it would be wise to attempt to sort out any underlying problems first.

    Avoiding issues wont help.

    Good Luck

I want to know what an AMD USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller is, and why I have two. Your post is condescending. If you don't know the answer then just say it. Obviously I'm not avoiding issues or I wouldn't be here. I have no other issues right now. I had already found what you gave me when I searched Google (I mentioned that I knew that stuff.) I have no idea why you answered my original post. You tell me that I'm avoiding issues? I'm going to advise you not to jump in when you don't know the answers to posts. It won't help anyone.

    From your previous thread...
And now the problem is back?
The mouse has a switch at the bottom, turn it off.
