Computer/Laptop Volume Problem

I just recently got rid of the latest AIM virus from help from one of you guys on here, and I am so grateful for it! It was so annoying.. But now I need help once more. I signed on and everything and went to go on AIM. Someone IM'd me, and it wasn't the normal sound it usually makes. It was a weird beep sound. I went to go look for the microphone icon at the bottom of the computer, and it wasnt there. I looked in my recycle bin to see if it was deleted or anything by mistake, and it wasn't there either. I later had my older brother look through my computer and he couldn't find anything wrong either. Anything that involves a sound being made, it only makes a 'beep' type of noise. I've been through the sound files and such from the control panel, and it was no luck for me either. Cannot help on the sound problems, but what advice did MG give that caused you to get AIM virus. Moderators will tell you that all MG downloads are well and truly tested for nasties before being posted. What Firewall are you using. Zone Alarm? or what. What antivirus program are you using. AVG, Avast, Norton's, Mc Afee, or what? Let us know. One word of advice, don't give your email address in your posts. MG help will come as replies to this post and we will all learn a bit more.
