What Computer Maintenance do you guys do externally and internally. On a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis?

I blow the dust out monthly or thereabouts. That is about it.

    Hardware:

    Clean fans and filters
    Clean Case
Clean inside of case ie. remove whatever dust the filters didnt catch.
Check fan fins for excess fluff ( gets on the fins and will reduce airflow )
more likey do this on a quarterly basis.

    Defrag
more or less once a month but O&Os auto defrag works well to keep the defrag to a min.

    Software: Daily/Weekly

Update OS, Drivers and Software if applicable
Clean all junk files and temps ( CCleaner )
    Image OS Harddrive ( Acronis TI8 )
Backup important docs/pics etc to backup HD and DVD
    Scan for Virii/Malware
Uninstall & Delete any downloaded software that I tested and will not be using.

Almost the same as halo, but not with drivers. Clear out cookies, run C-Cleaner, run AVG, Defrag.
Every week I'll make a point of making sure all cables are out of the way and dust is cleared up, cos I'm a clean-freak with my PC :D

I was actually thinking of hardware maintenance. I run CCleaner/and other anti-malware/adware about once a wk. I usually update each software before running. My anti-virus software (Trend Micro) is on auto.

I know Jack and that was my first thought, but then I thought "external/internal" well their is not much hardware wise to do externally apart from what I now thought of in

    Cleaning:
    Rodent
Keyboard.... hoover with the soft brush attachment and wipe with lightly damp cloth, also use cottonwool buds to remove, food, fluff, hair etc from the side of keys )
Monitor.... I have LCDs so only clean them with same fluid and cloths as I would use on my spectacles, done this for years no scratches or marks left.
    Printer.
    any other USB device.

    all again most done monthly.

but did also think internal can mean whats on the HDs as in software maintanence.

After running CClean on my hard drive, I clicked on the CClean Registry. After clicking "fix issues" a window asked me if I wanted backup changes to the registry (which is where I stopped). What's this about and would you recommend the backup?

Yes, go ahead and back up the changes.
This refers to the "problems" that CCleaner is about to fix.
If by some chance, you encounter problems after doing the fix, you can roll back to the previous state by restoring the back up.
(I don't believe I've ever heard on this forum of anyone having to do this.)

Next time posting a reply to a thread, please look at the date. You have drug up a nearly 3 year old thread. If needed, just post a link to the old thread.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi

As this topic is over 2yrs old my routine has changed a bit, case cleaning is apart from filters now maybe twice a year, backups and cleaning the hdds are about the same but now have Acronis TI 2009 and setup some scheduled backups so set and forget, they also are set to only keep last three so older ones are deleted.

Defrag is buggers change as now not doing full defrag nearly as much maybe 3 times a year of 4 hdds in main of totalling 1.5Tb, using latest O&O and it's auto just keeps it in check and defrags small changes without intervention, so main raid0 drive has been under 6% fragmented for over 6 months so no need to run full defrag.
