Computer Monitoring

Hello Geeks,

I’m trying to figure out how I can monitor a standard user account or get some sort of report on the computers activity. I have a client that has a daughter that is known for Identity theft and bank fraud, I believe she may be at risk but I wanted to put a administrative monitoring of the activity of the computer... my first thought was running some sort of screen capture recording in the background. The client is 82 with possible dimensha and I have made her change all her banking passwords gave them to her son and changed her windows account to standard user to prevent her daughter from putting viruses on the computer like in times past. I recently checked the hsitory on the computer and found links on how to access her banking information through false pretenses like “forgot passwords” and that’s just what wasn’t erased. I also thought keylogging but that really doesn’t take care of visual content. If someone can lead me down the right path that would be good. I’m trying to do this the right way within computer ethical means of course and that’s way I came here because I believe the Techs here are genuine on helping people and not nefarious.

I use Wireshark for all system and network monitoring activities so you can see whats coming in and whats going out.....set a filter to monitor all HTTP and TCP packets from the IP address of the host in question, set it for both source packets, and destination packets and this will tell you exactly whats going on. If you need some suggestions on filter writes, let me know.
Look, its fairly advanced for a normal user, but you sound like someone who has a bit of experience as a network admin?
Its within legal bounds to monitor your own network, or another, if you have permission to do so.
I don't recommend going beyond these 2 constraints

Still not a good area to go to seeing as this is a client, is she aware of this? or you just telling her son? Could be a bit of a legal issue.

 

Yeah her son has durable power of attorney so legal authority to make these decisions.
