Computer not booting

So I was doing school work on my computer late last night, then I wake up this morning and it will not boot. Here is what happens: I press the power button to turn it on, it sounds normal for 4 seconds then a long beep starts. The beep lasts for about 6 seconds, and then stops for about 4 seconds before starting again. It continues this indefinately. The computer sounds like it is running normally, but there is no signal to the monitor, and nothing is working except the beeping.

I do not know much about diagnosing computers, but the only thing I could think of was that it got overheated overnight (despite it being turned off) because it sits right next to the heating vent in my apartment. However, I keep the heat low, so it is still a pretty cool room temperature, and it has been there for a month with the heat turned on, without problems. I moved it away from the vent, and cleaned it out with some compressed air. Nothing has worked and I am out of ideas.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The beep from the speaker is the motherboards way of telling something is wrong. I don't think it is overheating though, as I'm pretty sure it will just shut down completely and not give the long warning signal in that case.

You probably need to open the case to check everything is ok.

Yea I opened it up, sprayed it down to get rid of some dust, and checked it out. Despite the fact that I put the computer together myself (with the help of a friend), I really do not know enough about computers to identify any problems beyond the blatantly obvious. All the appropriate cords look plugged in still, and I can't think of what could possibly have happened between late last night, and early this morning.

Nevermind, fixed it. Was a dislodged ram card.

A suggestion for the future is always try to re socket the ram and vid card. they might come lose somehow which youve noticed. thats always my first step for problems like these.
