To start with my computer is Dell Dimension XPS t600 mhz pentium 3, my wireless is a Linksys Compact Wireless-g usb Network Adapter with speedbooster and my router is Netgear Wireless cable modem Gateway cg814wg. I am running windows xp Professional Version 2002 sp2. I set up my wireless and logged onto the correct network and it will work for about 10-30 seconds before it seems to stop sending or recieve information. It says it is still connected to the network and shows a very strong signal, it just seems to be not communicating back and forth anymore?
    Any suggestions?

What if you ran a Ethernet cable from your computer to the Netgear Router, will everything work just fine that way?

Note: Have the Linksys Wireless Adapter unplugged when you try.

OK. It seems to be a setting problem with explorer as the computer had no problem downloading automatic updates for windows.

Hello, new to the website. I have a related problem but with a twist. I just bought a brand new Acer Aspire One (netbook) in Malaysia and am now back home. When I boot up the computer, wireless networks are detected (as expected). However, as soon as I attempt to connect to a network, it takes a long time and then all available networks disappear and I am no longer able to connect. It says "No networks within range" even though anyone else can locate and connect to the available networks. The situation remains unchanged until I reboot the computer and the whole process described above starts over again. I tried to repair the wireless network but that does not work. Could I be missing a driver? Any other ideas?
    Cheers.

we have been able to fix our problem. we removed the linksys software and allowed windows to detect the new device instead, it works properly now. apparently the two were interfering with one another.
