When we plug in our MP3's or cell phone to download music etc, the computer does not detect the drive any more. We have drives: c, d, f, g but no "e" drive any longer.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks - :)

    Greetings, jimmyz.

    We need more information:

Download and install Everest, a free system information tool.
Run Everest and click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
Choose System Summary Only > Next, choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for the report to generate.
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop, use Browse to locate desktop).

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post.

Have you rebooted the machine to see if the port reappears? And, the port was once working, and now doesn't?

Yes, it was working up until a week ago. We ran a full system scan but it was clean. I ran the program as suggested and have attached file. Hope I did it right!

    Thanks for your help!:)

Did you build this machine yourself, or is it an OEM (if so, we need the make and model #, service tag #, etc.)?

    Ok, couple of quickies:

Try booting to Safe Mode, see if the port starts working.

Do you have a Restore Point prior to one week ago? If so, try restoring to an earlier time, see if your symptoms change.

FYI: the following links are for the abit IS7-V: motherboard drivers and BIOS flashes - you might want to bookmark them for further reference.

I will try this and let you know how it goes! Thanks!

First off, my husband built the computer himself.

We did both things you suggested, Safe Mode did nothing. With System restore we went back to Sept. 20th and it did not work. I didn't know if we should go back further or try something else?

    Thanks for the help.

Check your Device Manager - are there any flags?

Okay, I have tried but I must ask, how do I get to Device Manager? :-o

Click Start, Control Panel, System, Device Manager - a list of all of your installed hardware should appear - check to see if there are any red or yellow warning signs.

Thank you! It showed no flags.

By all means, use any System Restore options available.

Do you have the OEM (abit or Intel) CD that came with the motherboard?

I don't think so but I will ask hubby since he's the one that built it.
