I have bought a brand new, was hoping good problem free, fast computer but i am having troubles now, when i had xp and vista, same problem.

When i turn my computer on, after its been off for a bit, it wont turn on. Its weird I do weird things, keep turning it on and off and it sometimes works.

Nothing shows on the monitor, and I can hear like its starting up, (Original beep, harddrive working) but no last big beep when it shows the mobo screen and everything, screen is blank.

I can turn my computer on sometimes If I leave it on for a bit, then hold butotn to turn it off, quickly press the on button like 3/4 times before it has time to actually re turn on it works. Among some other weird ways.

I have had this problem for over a month now, just couple days ago, i was getting 3 beaps ( problem with ram) so i re-seated it and now thats gone but still the startup thing.

    My specs:
    4 x 1gb ram, Corsair ddr2 (xms2)
Windows vista Ultimate (6.0, Build 6000) Genuine
Gigabyte DS3R MOBO with p-35 chipset
    512mb diamond radeon 2900xt
    Intel core2 quad (q6600 @ 2.40ghz)

    NOTHING, is over clocked.

    I attached my dxdiag.

    Thanks, appreciate your time/help!

How would I go about figuring what is causing it?

    Or how to fix it?

I have another thing to say, the 2 plugs that plug into my graphics card, I have 1 spot open, does that matter?

Like the plugs on the graphics cards are ||| ||||

and my plugs from my power supply are only 3's, so one of the things has 2 little squares not filled.. would that mattter? where could I get the cable for that?

YES! that absolutly matters you need either 2x 6pins or a 6pin and an 8pin, if you are using 2x 6pin connectios ATI overdrive overclocking will be disabled because where wont be sufficent power to the card itself. If you do have 2x 6pins connected its just fine (thats what i am running). and how long have u had these problems since you first got the computer shortly there after or when?

I have had it, Im pretty sure ever since I got it, I only have 2 x 6 pins, where can I get 1 8pin? I am not pro with the new powersupplies, are they like universal? if I got an 8 pin it will connect to my power supply no matter what?

( I cant get it locally I dont really have any good computer stores here, so it has to be from online, btw I live in canada)

you can run fine with 2x 6pins i do my friend does, to get an 8pin you would have to get a new power supply theres no other way around it. but since you have the proper amount of power flowing to your video card i doubt thats an issue. I would think its the hard drive thats dieing but you said thats working fine, have you tried maybe taking out some parts in the system and replacing them with spares if you have any? like try a lower wattage vCard or different ram, also maybe try updating ur BIOS that can help solve problems. Have you tried another hard drive on the computer to know its absolutly not a disk drive problem, cause the same thing happened to me years ago it would take several boots to get my computer going because my drive was failing. then it went kapoof. AS for canadian sites i think tiger direct is a good one i know there another but i dont remeber my friend always uses it newegg isnt bad either and they ship to canada i believe. and power suplies are pretty unoiversal just have to make sure that A it will fit in ur case but thats not likely to be a problem unles su have a tiny case and B it has the right power conenctors to your motherboard.

Ok thanks for the help, I have 1 more question. On the vCard, on the site opposite of like the fan and stuff, theres a little red light, that sometime it stays on by itself, when my computer turns on and doesnt work, and other times it just blinks red. But when its working its not...

Does that mean anything? like maybe blinking read means its trying to read harddrive and its a sign of harddrive problems?

    Thanks

I just glanced at my 2900 XT and i dont have that red light on but i know what u mean )that light blinks at startup) you probably want to refer to your manual because that may just be your problem maybe the video card isnt seated right or theres something wrong witht he card and it need to be RMAed. If you dont have a manual try emailing ATi.

    RMA = Return Materials Authorization
Basically you contact the supplier of the video card and return it to them for a replacement, you said yours is diamond right, you can do it on their website but they can be rather difficult (at some points) Then you just send your video card our they will test it and if there is something wrong they will give you a new one however if you get the same video card back then it may be somethign with your system, before you RMA your card you should probably ask what that red light means (red tends to be bad) and u might want to take note of ur products serial number if when you recieve a 2900 to check if its the same one as before. Simply put send an email to them with your problem make sure you list your power supply then after an email or two you will recieve an RMA number and instructions on how to return it.
