computer problems

the computer is running sluggish, and can only defrag. 28% of disc.
here are my specs to the computer:
microsoft win XP
home edition
version 2002
ser pac 2
sony viao laptop
intel pent. M 1.73 GHz
1.99GB ram

In addition to the general maintenance, pop over to the malware removal forum and read the stickies, and follow the steps. Without more detailed info from you, it's hard to really recommend a solid course of action, but the maintenance and malware removal are a real good start. You may want to visit your hard drive makers web site to download their diagnostic tool and run the extended/advanced test on your drive to make sure it's 100% healthy.... you could also run chkdsk... here's a link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265/en-us
