okay, i havent posted on this site in fooorreevveerr.. ill post my computer specs if it isnt still in my name.. friends computer right now.. okay well my computer just randomly froze when i was playing a game and listening to music.. turned it off, and tried turning it back on and everything turns on, but it still shows a black screen the whole time.. no boot screen, windows XP screen or anything.. the hard drives work cause i tried them in my friends computer to get some info off them, the green light on the motherboard works, so it couldnt be that right? the fan on the CPU spins fine, and the CD-DVD Drive works.. thought it was the video card from the beginning cause the fan on the card doesnt work when all the other fans on the computer work, its real dusty.. but i bought a new video card and recieved it thursday.. says DDR3 on the box, and i only use regular DDR RAM in my computer, so is that the reason why the new video card i bought isnt working?? the fan works fine on that card when the computer is turned on.. still just no screen at all on the monitor.. and i kno the monitor works fine.. so guys please help me figure it out, no computer for 2 weeks suckssss lol... thanks!!

You didn't mention the make/model of the new video card. Many new cards have their own power plugs so be sure that's connected. Double-check and reseat all the other cards and cables (power cables and data cables) and the RAM too. Clean all the dust and debris out of the case. If that doesn´t work, remove everything that isn't essential to the PC booting up: disconnect all the drives (both power and data cables); remove all the cards and all but one stick of RAM; if you have on board video, use it and remove the video card. If this doesn't work, then try a different power supply. Just because everything spins up doesn't mean the PSU is 100%. If none of this works, then there's a good chance the mobo has died; CPUs die much less frequently than motherboards. Have you tried the old video card in a different PC? Have you tried the new card in a different PC?

    (welcome back to MG! :wave)

Oh yeah- the type of memory on the video card and the PC have nothing to do with each other so the video card having DDR3 will have no effect on whether it works in your PC or not.

thanks dude, i havent tried either of my video cards, old or new in any other computer expect mine.. but ill try to do that tonight.. and ahhhh maybe it might be my power supply.. cause my good PSU died i thought, and same with my other PSU.. they both didnt even turn on, but now they do somehow, just no picture on the screen.. i kno atleast one of the PSU works for certain cause i tried it on a buddies computer.. the new video card i got was EVGA GeForce 8600 GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 that i got off Newegg.. and ohh really? but shouldnt the motherboard be working if the green light is turned on? and if all the parts connected to the motherboard are spinning? and all my computer specs are shown in my name or sig or whatever you wanna call it

my computer still isnt working.. ive yet to order any new parts cause i dont kno which to buy, please help! ive done what the guy said below to do, but still nothing.. i think i need to buy new RAM, Motherboard, or CPU.. or another powersupply.. i have a new video card i just got, so it cant be that.. both my power supplies work on other computers, and they seem to power my computer, cept a black screen.. SOMETHING has to be causing my computer not to work.. so it has to be 1 of the 4 parts right? but the green light on my mother board works and the parts connected to the motherboard seem to be spinning/working right, so shouldnt that be functioning right? CPU fan spins so i assume that works too? idk how to check to see if the RAMs causing the computer not to work.. im just completely lost right now.. like i said, the computer turns on fine.. just no one single thing shown on the screen cept a black screen, and i know its not my monitor
