    Hi

I transfered my motherboard into a new case. I did my best to plug everything in properly. The computer starts up, and i have even got into windows, but after a short time it randomly turns off. I know power is consistently getting to the motherboard because the motherboard light does not switch off. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Are you sure it isn't overheating or even shorting.

Motherboards have a limit set that if the board gets to that temp, it will restart or shut down (depending on what you set it to do) so it doesn't ruin it. For the overheating...make FOR SURE you don't have the heatsink on the cpu on backwards. Then try firing it up with the side off and maybe a fan blowing into it and if it stays running, then odds are you don't have proper cooling inside the case. If you heatsink is on backwards, then it will do this infinitely.

As far as checking for a short...build the PC out of the case on a piece of cardboard. Of course you have to be careful and make sure nothing is touching. For example...you don't want the hard drive or the PSU to accidentally touch the motherboard or some such that would cause something to short. And make sure everything is on the cardboard. Plug in the monitor and see how long it runs. If it stays up then you need to figure out the reason for the short in the case.

HELP! - My computer is randomly shutting off..

Hello. I'm hoping to find some help here. I'm having the same issue - my computer randomly shuts off.

My computer was fine, until I reformatted - and now it randomly shuts itself off.

    Computer Specs are as follows:

    Digital Storm Twister
    Power Supply: 550W
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Due E6600 2.4GHz
    Motherboard:Asus P5N-E SLI
    Memory - 2GB DDR 2 Corsair at 800MHZ XMS2
Hard Drive: 250GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA)
Video Card: nVidia GeForce 8800GTX 768MB
    Cooling: Extreme Liquid Chilled

Hopefully thats enough info. I'm no computer wiz, but I know some basics. Theres no dust or debreis inside of my computer, fan is free and clean of dust.

It's not an overheating issue. And the Power Supply seems to be fine. The reason I know this is, because the last time I formatted about 6 months or so ago - my computer did this same exact thing... started randomly shutting itself off.

The way it was fixed - I had to call Digital Storm, and they walked me through a start up process - with some type of start up repair I had to click through, that I unfortunately can not remember - and its the weekend, and they only have tech support hours Monday through Friday, and this issue will drive me nuts before Monday, so I'm hoping someone here can help.

Basically what I'm wanting to know is, does anyone know the repair start up process? I do have a recovery disc, but the process that Digital Storm walked me through, was something different - and the recovery disc does not work in this case. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks Fred. I tried to start my own thread, but it told me I had no access to do that for some reason. I figured it was because I just signed up?
