Computer Reboots when I access NAS device

I installed a D-Link DNS-323 NAS device on my network. It works fine on a Windows Vista machine, but on an older XP (SP3) machine, the system reboots as soon as I try to access the NAS.

The reboot is consistent. All I have to do is select the drive in the network window. Or try to map it in Explorer. As soon as this device is selected, bam, black screen, reboot.

I tried updating the network adapter driver, and in fact there was an update available, but it made no difference.

D-Link tech support says sorry, it's your computer because it works fine on another system.

I don't know where to start with this...
